My take on Russian Style

Style is a universal language. A language that is both eloquent and fluent yet constantly evolving, from city to city around the globe. An aesthetic cohesion is emerging within the Russian fashion world; styles are exhibited before they have become a trend. What differentiates young Russians from other consumers of global fashion is their innate sense for risk taking. There is a dichotomy between modern and vintage, from edgy and modern to prim and proper, the collaborations of feminine pastel florals with edgy eccentric minimalism. The 'Russian Fashion Pack' made up of the likes of Ulyna Sergeenko, Vika Grazinskaya and Miroslava Duma, are the ultimate representation of the Russian fashion world encapsulating contemporary at its finest. Members of this fashion forward fraternity are frequently cited in trend stories wearing bold prints, bright colors, oversized accessories, pyjamas and turbans. Nothing is too preppy, nothing is too bright. It’s the mix and max that has grasped the interest of the style stalker photographers such as Tommy Ton and Phil Oh who focus now on the Russian beauties whose dramatic style is as eye catching as their names. Their style is experimental yet timelessly chic and sophisticated and it is because of this that Russian fashion is earning its place as a high contender in the fashion stakes. If anyone knows how to work the pavement like it is the couture catwalk it is Russia's youngest and finest fashionistas.

"America has Jacki O, the world has Audrey Hepburn, but Russia never had a fashion icon of the moment. Maybe that is what is happening now: modern Russian icons are being born"
